How Install Vinyl Floor

Vinyl is one of the easiest floors to apply. However, how you apply the floor will depend on the vinyl product you choose and the manufacturer’s application instructions.

However, regardless of the type of vinyl floor you choose, a few preliminary steps are required to make sure you apply the floor properly. To get started you need to do the following:

• In most cases, you will need to remove the existing floor covering. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, rigid LVT can be applied directly over tile and existing subfloors. Vinyl roll linoleum can be laid over linoleum, but the floor must be crack-free and in good condition and must be pre-cleaned. It is not recommended to install highly flexible plastic overlays with a textile or foam base, such as vinyl roll or LVT, or old vinyl floors on carpet. Laying vinyl rolls on tile is also not recommended due to the telegraph forming effect where the joints of the tile appear on the surface of the vinyl roll. If you are applying on ceramics, you must use a leveling compound to ensure the floor is level and level.

Make sure the subfloor is dry, clean and level.

• Unpack the vinyl floor and let it rest in the room where it will be applied for at least 24 hours to acclimate to room temperature.

How is LVT laid?

There are several ways to implement LVT, but one of the fastest and easiest ways is to use the click system.
Starfloor Click products are designed with click application, which allows for two simple and versatile application methods:

• Angling – This method is used for our Starfloor Click 30 collection. Allows the application of angle-locking, where planks or tiles are applied at an angle along both their short and long ends.
• Push-down – This method is used in our Starfloor Click 55 and Starfloor Click Ultimate collections and involves using a rubber hammer on the short side to knock down vinyl tiles or planks.

Thanks to Click system technology, you can apply your LVT floors effortlessly and quickly. Also, since LVT is an easy modular system, there is no need to remove all furniture from the room during application. You can apply vinyl flooring step by step by repositioning your furniture around the room on the go.

How to lay vinyl roll?

There are three main ways to apply Tarkett vinyl roll. The type of application method you use depends on the product you choose and the size of the room.

• Completely loose lay – Simply lay the vinyl floor over the subfloor. Then you need to open the floor and cut it. We recommend this method for small areas under 12 m².
• Can be laid semi-free – Using double-sided tape around the room to secure the floor. We recommend this method for medium areas between 12 and 25m².
• Fully adhesive – using a water-based spray adhesive such as Tarkett’s easy and environmentally friendly solution, Tarkospray. We recommend this method for large areas over 25m².

The main application method for Tarkett vinyl roll is the semi loose lay method. A simple utility knife is often the only tool you need.

Here are the different steps to apply a vinyl roll if you have a large room:

Required tools:
– Gloves – Measuring tape
– Pencil – PVC Cold Welding
– Double-sided tape – Masking tape
– Hook blade – Flat blade
– Cylinder
– Steel ruler

1. After 24 hours of acclimatization, cut the rolls with 5 cm margins and wait 24 hours.
2. Plan a precise layout to balance the ground
3. Depending on the size of the room and the width of your floor, a multi-part application may be required. A cold weld may then be needed for joint sealing.
4. Draw the reference line (where the pieces meet)
5. Place double-sided tape over the edges
6. Position the part along the reference line
7. Overlap the pieces and align the joints
8. Cut the decking along the wall
9. Cut the pieces twice
10. After double cutting, fold one piece and follow the connecting line (for tape positioning)
11. Place the double-sided tape over the connecting line. Remove the protective foil and lay the 2 pieces from edge to edge.
12. Place the masking tape on the joint
13. Press the masking tape with the roller to avoid bubbles
14. Cut the masking tape along the joint with the hook blade
15. Use the cold source by inserting the needle into the joint and gently press the tube to ensure a continuous flow of solution across the joint
16. After 10 minutes of drying time, gently remove the masking tape
17. Your floor is now ready

What adhesive is used for vinyl flooring?
You do not need adhesive to apply any of the Tarkett LVT flooring options. However, if you are using the adhesive application method for your Tarkett vinyl roll floor, we recommend using a water-based spray adhesive such as Tarkett’s easy and environmentally friendly solution, Tarkospray.
